i just bought a 91 turbo the guy told me that the turbo was blown and leaked a quart of oil between oil changes into the motor i am planning on replacing the turbo soon how bad is it if i drive on the blown turbo thanx Mike
I agree when a turbo is BLOWN you likely will know real quick I.E lots of white/blue smoke from the tail pipe. I always do a compression check and Byron had a good idea...run a line off the valve cover PCV vent to the cabinand put a ballon on it and boost, if it expands rapidly you have excess blow by.Byron said:Mike,
If the turbo is bad, then the compressor wheel may be running against the housing and making aluminum powder that will get into the engine. If engine blow by is causing the oil problem, I would hate to see you spend the time and money replacing it.
I would suggest checking the crankcase pressure, or doing a cylinder leakage test to make sure it is not an engine problem.
That's what Toyo techs ALWAYS say!ibassez said:the guy i got it from said that toyota said that the turbo is blown?
