Mike,

If the turbo is bad, then the compressor wheel may be running against the housing and making aluminum powder that will get into the engine. If engine blow by is causing the oil problem, I would hate to see you spend the time and money replacing it.

I would suggest checking the crankcase pressure, or doing a cylinder leakage test to make sure it is not an engine problem.

I agree when a turbo is BLOWN you likely will know real quick I.E lots of white/blue smoke from the tail pipe. I always do a compression check and Byron had a good idea...run a line off the valve cover PCV vent to the cabinand put a ballon on it and boost, if it expands rapidly you have excess blow by.

I the turbo is blown it will do 1 or 2 things let lots of oil past the seals that will burn up in the engine and smoke like hell!! or it will have damage to it i.e broken fins or bent shaft etc... when turbos go you will know it. The Mr2 will always have a little oil in the IC pipes its normal on any car because the PCV will have a light oily mist. A compression or leakdown test is the best way to determin the health of the engine

yeah im going to check the shaft play in it see what its like so then you guys are saying the turbo is not blown? huh cause my friend has 2 of them with 100k and the turbos are not blown so if the turbo was blown i would know for sure? it would smoke so i could take it to toyota and have them do a compression test ? and they will tell me how good the motor is?

I had a blown turbo replaced. Excessive oil leakage from turbo, oil light on. I have a autometer shift light that would tell me to shift at 3000rpm(I believe this is when the turbo normally kicks in) and my oil light came on after a while of driving my ride with a busted turbo. Replaced the turbo and everything went back to normal. I did notice that the car did not pull as hard or at all sometimes when I had the bad turbo. Hopefully this along with everyone else remarks helps.

Bought a used ct26 with a 60-1 TO4E compressor with 10 degree clip from another board member for about $250. I believe a rebuild will run you any where from $300-$500. If you want your car up and running quick just post an ad on want to buy board, someone will respond eventually. Be patient good things come to those who wait. Good luck ibassez.
