Aftermarket Oil Level Sensor Light System

Has anyone ever put thought into an oil level sensor system solution for MR2's with swaps or just someone looking to check levels? Something as simple as a single light that turns on just like stock when the oil is low. It should not be too hard to come up with the circuitry.

I have a 91 NA body with a Moroso pan and would love to have something like this wired up to my triple pillar pod with a yellow LED light that I can put right next to my oil pressure gauge.

I'm not sure if there is an external ECU in the car somewhere that can be removed/purchased so we can put this in other MR2's and just wire out own LED or cluster light.

It is just a simple float switch and an LED bulb, very simple. The hard part is getting the sensor installed into the pan. A stock sensor should work, just got to figure out how to get it mounted to the pan.

The wiring itself is easy, 12+ in 1 side of the switch, the other to 1 LED wire and the other LED wire to ground. When the switch turns on, the LED lights up, and vice versa.

really.. that simple.. Aww shucks... LMAO.. Ok.. then i have to find myself a sensor for the pan. I already have a moroso pan with the block off plate installed :)

I guess there I go overcomplicating the thought process of something so simple again.. Thanks Tex..

It's not worth it. Just check your oil level frequently. Most older cars dont even have the oil level sensors to begin with nor do the J-Spec MR2s. That feature was actually a US added feature because americans are too lazy to check.

You can always go around telling people that it's JDM tyte yo!

Hey.. I?m American.. i resent that statement.. lol.. I found a used one in good condition.. I?m going to run the wires and drill out my pod and install a yellow 12V LED.. I would rather have this than not, especially since i have all the trouble with my block and blow by.. I usually check it when i get gas, but another safety feature at my disposal is always a good thing.. :)

That's american thinking too, LOL. I'd rather fix the cause of blow by or a recirculating catch can. Subies are known to drink the wrong type of oil, still we refuse to use the dummy light. Peace out.......

i know the cause and the fix is a rebuild.. Since this is my DD.. i cant just rip it apart when i want. so i have a scheduled time off from work that i will use fix the issue. my fix is .5mm over pistons on my current block with a new oil pump/water pump. So until then i have to monitor things so i can make it till then with a running engine.

and to be honest.. I still feel that this is an awesome idea reguardless of my problems. cause nobody wants to see a red light at WOT. I would much rather a yellow before that happens.

Well i had some time after work today and decided to have some fun..

I went down to radio shack and picked up two lights (272-0001 & 272-332). I really waned the look of the 272-0001 but it was 110v. so i ended up gutting the inside and putting the light from the 272-332 in the 272-001 case. I had to snap off a lil the bottom of the 272-0001 to clear the bulb from the 272-332. i used some hot glue to hold it in place and bingo.. I had what i wanted. I drilled a 12m hole in my pod and popped it in.. I also picked up an oil level sensor that was used but in good condition... Ill have to run some wires from the pan to the pod when i have time but here are some pics.
