Most likely it is due to the supercharger spinning around 8k. Get her up to 10 or 11 grand and the whine will surely be more pronounced.

lol you have to keep in mind car companies go to great lengths to filter out all the awsome supercharger and tubo noises us car guys love.

Take the eaton M90 for example, if you look at the 2 ports i circled there only there to reduce supercharger wine. On all of eaton's performace models that are deleted for more noise and a 1-2psi increase in boost.

Have you ever looked inside a factory rubber intake, ever wondered why its all dempled and ribbed, its to rebuce noice

Just like ATSAaron said up there, I put an open filter in the trunk and it got at least 5 times louder. There is a duct that runs between the cabin and the trunk, through the rear quarter panel. Some people have insulation in there that deadens the sound, make sure it's not in there or remove it if it is, should be quite a bit louder.

With a cone filter setup almost identical to ATSaaron's and that foam piece removed (above inside drivers fender as you describe) it got quite noticeable, almost loud even, inside the cabin. I also had the Cusco 14psi pulley on it.

Do all the above and remove your rear window glass and it's insanely loud!! (I was putting in lexan at the time and drove one day with it out).

With that cone filter setup on my MK1.5, it's so loud without the fender foam that it hurts your ears (turbo whistle). I have to have the foam in place for the turbo to tolerate it.

Good point. Plastic outlet and intercooler piping most definately dampens the noise.

this is interesting.... my 87 hardtop with a 101 sc12 and ae92 gze longblock.... runnning on megasquirt with a standard 'civic' intake pipe on it (fits bc the battery is in the frunk) and it's never been noticeable..... only very very faintly when I went to a very quiet exhaust..... the exhaust on it now is 4/2/1 header into a stock-routed (but larger) exhaust, turbo 2 muffler, and a disc only out the back.... so it has intake and header.....

You can faintly hear it when there is no filter/intake on it and you're nearing rpm limit

Or toss in an SC14...they really whine on these little engines.
Those 1ggze SC14 are pretty hard to find. Looks so much easier than the Previa SC14. Somebody really needs to put that SC20 from the Kawasaki Ultra 250x in a mr2.

filter muffles sc sound alot. on my 4agze with cone filter i barely heard it. Same sc controlled vai throttle switch on 5afe (sc before tb) with open filter pipe (no filter) and the sc was superloud.
