What do you guys think of these?

http://www.autoanything.com/dash-mats/60A1068A0A0.aspx

Only $50 for the AW11.

It's sort of a sad story, because my grandma's Volvo has one and I kind of want one for my duece, mainly because the stock dash material attracts dust hours after being cleaned!

Had one since the 80's

I have one on those mats and I'm only middle aged, that is if I can make it to 95. Mine is in black. What I like about it is you can use oversized dash speakers and it doesn't matter that the grills don't fit. Also no cracks in a dash for a car that never sees the inside of a garage. Then again, I think seat covers are for wussies. Pick your poisen. Use plenty of velcro to hold it down and not wrinkle.

It might look a little dorky, but you can drive faster safely with one than without one if you buy the black colored dashmat ..... because it can reduce the sunlight glare reflecting off your stock dash. People pay big bucks to get a little more engine performance, but for only $50 for a dashmat, you'll be sometimes able to outrun them. With less glare, the view ahead will have greater contrast and clarity, allowing you more time to recognize potential dangers... thus being able to drive faster safely. Even the black velour fabric has some reflectivity, but it's less than a stock dash, and you can always reduce that to a negligible amount with flat black spray paint. Of course, at night it won't make a difference, nor with the dust your stock dash attracts.

But think about all the extra weight the mat will add.

Weight?

It's polyester carpet without backing. It weighs practically nothing. The BGB in the trunk weighs more. Then again it's hard to weigh the "dork factor" of having the mat. It starts with a dash mat, and leads to black wing tip shoes. Dare to be a nerd, put in the mat.

I'm working on a repair solution for my 88 and I'm ignoring the carpet (or velour) solution for it's ability to collect dust. Nah, not for me.

Something I need to see samples for are carbon fiber look-alike (carbon fibber?) that is adhesive backed and heat shrinks to comform to the contours.

I shall follow this thread with some interest.

I was only being sarcastic about the weight thing because I assumed DELF was kidding too. :p
We are all having a laugh. Velour, like mutton chop sideburns and a leisure suit, is hard to take seriously. It never occured to me about the glare factor since I can't remember a time when the mat wasn't there. My brain doesn't work like it used to. The 70's have a lot to answer for.

I installed my dashmat today for the first time and it did a great job eliminating glare that otherwise reflects off the black, slightly reflective Toyota vinyl dash.... and obscures the view through the windshield. The reason it doesn't look all that dorky is that it is very similar to the texture of the Toyota floor carpet and floor mat; maybe this means that I didn't actually buy the "velour" fabric though. It must be this non-shrinking needle punch carpet material instead. For years beforehand I've used flat black suede leather to cut that glare, but those pieces don't fit as well as the DashMat.... which is tailored well for the purpose. Do you want pictures with and without to make up your own minds? Or is the whole concept of a DashMat simply too alien and 1970's-like to take seriously? ;)

I like it!

Come on, what better way to protect a 20+ YO car's VERY EXPENSIVE, hard to find, rare, original dash?

I don't have any cracks yet (knock on wood), but with the way the front window is so huge, and the nuclear sunlight I get here in cali, it's bound to crack sooner or later.

Sure, a sunshade works, but what about the times you are driving around? Also, it will cut the heat generated inside the vehicle while sitting in a parking lot, since the vinyl will take my skin off when hot, but not the carpet.

I think I may get one....you can even have MR2 embroidered in it for that custom touch!

That sounds like a classy material; is it available in a low gloss texture? I see the Alcantara website shows pictures of the future, possible MR2 "replacement" --- the hybrid Volta:

"The experience of Giugiaro points the way to the future of supercars, upholstered in Alcantara?."We have entered a new world, designing a hybrid that looks nothing like the traditional electric car...which is often unattractive" states Fabrizio Giugiaro. The Alessandro Volta concept car, produced in collaboration with Toyota, is the proof that it will soon be possible to enjoy driving a sports car while reducing the environmental impact by using hybrid engines. This car will not sacrifice any of the performance and elegance that can be found today in sports cars with Alcantara? interiors."

Yes it is very classy yet sporty material. All of it is low gloss, it is much like a suede finish. Beware of artificial Alcantara, what I am selling is the real deal. :)

Alcantara is a great material used in many a sportscar. I'm very interested in covering my dash with it, as soon as I know what the final look of my dash will be (I'm planning on integrating a GPS navigator and possibly a media terminal). :)
But the idea of a dash-mat sounds very off-putting. The pictures I saw did look rather ugly, but I admit I've never seen or never even heard of this before. Still I think the 'proper' way to go is to properly cover the dash with, say, Alcantara.
Wonder where to get that here in Finland? Oh well, not in the market yet...
