UPDATE: Both problems have been fixed. The glowing turbo was due to not having enough ignition timing advance in the cruising area of the ignition map. The distributor base timing being wayy off ended up being the Trigger Angle setting in the EMS. It was set to 65 degrees, I ended up changing it to 40 degrees and that fixed the issue.
I have a potential problem. I just installed my engine over the weekend, my turbo is glowing red, and I'm NOT driving the car hard. Even after a 10 minute cruise on the freeway doing 65 and not revving high it gets red hot.
AFR's are around 14.5-15 while cruising in 5th gear at 65mph, under boost they drop to 10.2ish and the highest boost I even got to was about 6psi (I haven't gotten the car tuned yet, it's running off of a base map Haltech supplied me set to run my Blitz 850's). My wideband is NOT hooked up to my Haltech yet. I also have the IAT sensor zip tied next to the T-body because I haven't had a chance to install it in the piping.
Specs:
2nd gen 3SGTE
Haltech PS1000
Blitz 850's
GT3076R, stock exhaust manifold with adapter
HKS 264's and adjustable cam gears (cams are both set to 0 according to the gears).
ATS replenum intake manifold
Forged internals
The timing marks on the crank pulley and the cam gears are all lined up with the timing marks on the block and head. When I was adjusting the distributor for my base timing, I had to turn the distributor all the way advanced (clockwise) to get my ignition timing to 10 degrees (why is that? All my timing marks are lined up).
The car will also shoot flames if I blip the throttle a few times while sitting idle. The turbo gets soo hot that it made parts of my turbo blanket turn white.
What do you guys think is causing this? I heard if the exhaust cam is retarded too much it would cause this? Again, cam gears are set to 0, dizzy has to be turned fully advanced for the timing to be at 10 degrees, all timing marks line up with the marks on the head and block.
