P/S question, the light is on what does it mean?

I went to buy a 91 black auto mr2, the light was on the dash that showed "P/S" i would think this means that something is wrong with the Power steering, but i wanted to know what you guys think. I didn't have the time to run a OBD I check, but other than that the mr2 was in good condition.

I had this problem and although it could be one of many things, mine ended up being a bad PS ECU. I had to replace it.
Try checking the various components.
Look through the online BGB procedures here:

agreed, my 91 N/A that was swapped to a JDM turbo motor didn't have it, however this is gonna be a daily driver for a while until i save engouh $$ for the swap and suspenison and whatnot.

i wonder if there is a sensor to tell the drive it's low on PS fluid, is this a possiblity?

trying turning the key between the off and on positions about 20 times without starting the car. the relays for the power steering get stuck and it wont turn on. then start the car and wait ~10 seconds. if its still on, repeat the procedure. if it never turns off after that...something's wrong.
