I am not sure that answers the specific question. There is a difference between the specific Gen1/2/3 motors that has gone over time and time again, but to my knowledge the only difference between US and Foreign 3sgte motors of the same generation is emmisions.

RickyB informed me that there is a sensor or valve that is heated in the US.

Chrisk informed me that he believes all 3sg blocks are cast in Japan and it shows during machine work. The amount of silica in the iron is higher (which makes it quieter) and the cast seems to have thinner walls than a 5sfe block. He believes that the 5sfe block is cast in the US, which has a different mold (thicker cylinder walls) and contains less silica that makes for a stronger block. He noticed this when he puts sleeves in the block. On 3sg motors, he often sees the water jackets and on 5sfe motors, he does not.

Anyway...HTH...

"my Gen2 doesnt have an EGR system. if i recall correctly, theres no JDM motor with an EGR system."
o about the japanese motors not having EGR...some of them does have it...ie. 90-92 corolla 1.6l motor.
