I dont want to pay $73 for a rotor at partznet.
So i got price quote Napa, Orelly, autozone. Brake Rotors for 91t is about 18 each. Also, I am going to install porterfield R4S pads when I got my new brake rotors.
Any one have used brake rotors from those suppliers before?

Careful with Napa rotors.... the $18 ones don't come surfaced and the pads don't seat right and squeal like crazy. If you buy the $18 ones, go to Home Depoit and buy a circular sanding pad/bit for your drill. Then lightly scuff the top of the rotor.. you will see a circular arching pattern develop. Just make sure you scuff the pattern in evenly. This will allow the pads to bite in and seat correctly and not squeal.

As an alternative, I believe Napa offers a one step up rotor for $40-$50 that allready has the crosshatching on it.

If you buy a cheap rotor, you will get cheap performance. Very bad brake fade, squeaking brakes everytime you hit them, warping, pitting...... Buy either factory ones or better.

i just all four brake rotors from napa on my 91t for $88 total. My pocket is tiet.
I only installed front rotors w/ porterfield r4s pads.
It stops a little better than before.
dont know if it's the pads or the rotors.
Rotors have good quality in my point of view. There is nothing wrong w/ them.

I'll cheap out on everything from crappy tires to plastic for a window, you can always drive slower for the tire grip or deal with looking ugly while you save up for that new window, but, never ever will I cheap out on my rotors and pads. I've bought mostly the factory parts untill recently looking into slotted rotors for around $100 a piece. BTW, I can't remember if it is Advanced or Autozone, but they sell these lifetime warranty pads, for the love of god do not buy them. The pads are lifetime warranty because they are nothing but a rock, I've a freind who bought them for his Cavalier, you will be replacing your rotors everytime you turn around instead of your pads, and you won't be stopping any time soon either.

I can't remember who on the board said it:
Upgrade your brakes before upgrading power. Be sure you can stop what you create.
If you've gotten them, which it sounded like you did from your last post, I hope they don't give you much trouble.

yep i got a j body myself, getting my exchange on every six months. Semi metallic w/o warantee is the way to go.

Yeah I have seen those lifetime warranty pads and rotors. I will never buy them. My rotors have 3 months warranty, but I am not counting on the warranty.
Anyways, someone has to try those rotors first. Since I am broke, it might as well be me. :)

3 year warranty on a rotor is common, not a bad thing. However, a warranty on brake pads is another thing, maybe a short mileage with a time period attached but not lifetime. The last pads I bought for my wifes Pontiac Gr AM GT were 3 month 5k miles, but, void without "professional" installation. I tried to convince the lady at Advanced Auto that "professional" just means you get paid for what you do, not that you have any certification, and amatuer simply means you are free.

Heres my info:

1) You can get the 70 dollar rotors that cheker sells (Raybestos VGM) for 20 bucks at pep boys. THis is what oredered. Part number 96181.

2) I ordered AXIIS CEramic Pads becuase they are softer than then the metal junk with lifetime warranty.

How do you know if your rotors need to be surfaced when you buy them or not? If it doesnt have cross hatching then should you do that? I have never heard of this.

I got all new calipers w/ pads not long after buying my MR2 because my brake calipers were crapping out on me. I got the rear rotors resurfaced, but the front ones were below the wear limit and I was on a tight time-frame to get the car fixed so I just got the cheap $20 a piece rotors from NAPA. I have driven over 10,000 miles on these brakes already and been to the dragstrip (ie. heavy braking at the end of the track) with them and they have performed admirably. When I changed the brakes out I flushed and refilled the brake fluid with valvoline synthetic brake fluid. Brake fluid is an often overlooked, and very cheap, way to upgrade your brake system. I have not managed to get brake fade no matter how hard I flog the car, and I have a lifetime warranty on my calipers and brake pads now. As expensive as calipers are a lifetime warranty is a great thing, and while the brake pads provided perform better than expected I would likely get upgraded brake pads when they wear out instead of using the warranty to get more of the same brake pads.

I have Napa rotors and Porterfields and I really enjoy the set up. I think the brakes are a bit soft until they get some heat into them but that could just be in my head. They squeak a little bit some times but not for very long. The stopping power is really good. I got all over the breaks the other day and was very impressed with the stopping power. I have had them on for about 1000 miles and I have had no problems and would suggest this setup!!!

Cheers!!

I agree here. I was always taught dont go cheap here. Buy premium if you can. Stay away from Republic of China and the likes. Buy from our number one supplier....Kanada. Brake fade is not fun, especailly with the HEAVY rims ive seen ppl put on our 2.0's.

got a whole set of brembo rotors from wholesaledirectparts.com for under $300 and i'm loving them.

Yup, a bunch of Honda-Tech racers use them. They have the 3 month warranty, so they flog on them during race season, they crack, then they take them back for free replacements!

But the Autozone blanks are considered on par in quality w/ the OEM and Brembo rotors. I use Autozone rotors on my Prelude and my dad's car and have had no complaints whatsoever.

wow this thread is damn old.....
I bought Napa rotors they are 1/3 price of autozone rotors.
I forgot the reason why i titled this thread "autzone rotors"

Update of my rotors:
My rotors are still fine. no crack or anthing.
I think it's almost time to change my Porterfield pads now. Hard driving costs!

For the price they are fine..i have used autozone/advanced auto brakes and rotors on all my cars. I see people all the time that buy high dollar rotors and they end of cracking all up. I havent had any problems yet with the rotors...some of the really cheap brake pads though arent too great (10-20$ ones). I have had them peeling from the backing plates before. But hey! its warrentied and i just take them back and get a better set.

J bodies from 84-89 are notorious for uneaven wear in the front of the brakes. Nothing you can do. You can even RR the front calipers and still have the same problem.
