soo me and everyone else who has a n/a has a sw21 and they shouldnt say they have a sw20 because they would be perpetrating right?

 

Its just way of differentiating between trims by VIN. The chassis code is still SW20. The JDM MR2 non-turbo is still regarded as SW20 btw. The "20" doesn't correlate to the engine size, take the AW11 for example. Some later models has the VIN say SW22 am I right?

In the case of MR2s:

AW11: A denotes the engine family (4AGE). W denotes the model (in this case W = MR2), and 11 is the generation of the MR2.

SW20: S (3SFE, 5SFE, 3SGE, 3SGTE). W (for MR2), and 20 is the second generation.

ZZW30 : ZZ (1ZZFE). W...etc.

I am pretty sure that is right.

 

sw20 is the body code. sw21 is the vin designation. its very simple. the car is an sw20 regardless of motor.

Oh yeah, my friend's 95 Turbo is also SW22.

SW20=means Mk2 (mk2 is the 1991-98 body style)

the VIN numbers correspond with the cars options and specifics, like build location, tranny type, engine type etc etc.. SW21 is part of the actual VIN.

 

SW21 was actually the chassis code for the 5S NA MR2. They had a completely different run of chassis numbers from the turbos and 3S NAs. Technically, a North American NA car is NOT an SW20...but people lump all MKIIs into SW20 for simplicity.

SW22 IS just a VIN designation for an SW20, but SW21 is not just a VIN designation for SW20 - it's the chassis code.
