hi im new to the forum however i have a couple of questions regarding these transmissions...

First off i have a 98 camry i4 5sfe. Secondaly i am turbocharged sitting around 400ftlbs of torque and blew up the s51. Now the questions i have are which trans would be a direct fit or just changing the linkage/input shaft. Basically i can do what ever it takes to get a stronger trans in, i just dont know what needs to be ordered or swaped to make a e153 or 52/53 bolt up to my 5s block.

I also would like a little bit longer gears or the same gearing.. anything less and more wheel spin.... Also tring to put a LSD in while i have trans apart. Thanks alot.

The E153 from the 97-01 Camry V6 should suit your setup fine. You'll need the axles w/ carrier bearing. You can swap hubs too if you'd like. The Camry V6 brakes are bigger and use dual piston calipers up front. If you already have a big brake kit, then disregard that. Otherwise, you'll need to have the V6 axles machined to fit your hubs or use the hubs from a Camry V6. You'll probably also need new shifter cables sourced from a Camry V6.

For LSD options, look to the MR2T guys. The Camry V6 E153 is compatible with the MR2T E153 LSDs.

The Camry's E153 has gearing which is just a little bit longer than the S51, so it should be perfect.

ok not to be a dick on your knowledge.... however the v6 camry is a single piston floating caliper... and i under stand hub is differnt however even if i change hub i do not need to change rotors.... also i need to know if the trans is a direct fitment which i doubt... i already know the input shaft is probally larger and the other issue it the rear motor mount and the axle that runs through it... plus how many of the trans bolts line up with a 5s engine... thanks

Yeah, you're right. They should use dual pistons.

The input shaft is the same diameter, but it has 1 more spline than the S transmissions. The E153's bellhousing was redesigned in 1993 to bolt up with both the MZ and S series engines.

You might be able to use the 1MZ carrier mount and adapt it somehow to the 5S. You should have better luck at ToyotaNation. There's a good group of Camry owners there.

ok so if there is 1 more spline then i should have to buy a v6 clutch and pressure plate.... now how about the flywheel? i would have to do a v6 flywheel or is it the same dia. and bolt pattern. Could i do hybrid axles meaning the trans side v6 and carrier side i4? Also any camry/solara trans after 93 should bolt right up your saying and the cables would need to be switched with that same year?

thanks

Nik explained it great, but I'll elaborate. You'll use an E153 (90-95 MR2 Turbo or 97-01 Camry/Solara V6, it doesn't matter) clutch disc with the S51/S54 pressure plate and the same flywheel. The V6 flywheel won't bolt up.

The axles are quite a bit different. I'm not sure about that one.

Well I was saying the bellhousing on the E153 was changed in 1993 on the MR2T for future use with a V6. The 1997-2001 Camry/Solara E153 is of the same design as the 93+ MR2 turbo except the shifter linkage is at the back of the transmission where you need it to be. Because the design of the transmission is different, and the shifter linkage itself is different, it'd be best to use the 97-01 V6 shifter cables with the E153, instead of your S51 cables, to avoid any shifting difficulty.
