I just bolted my fabricated lower arms and control arms to the chassis. Since the rear lower arm swings thru a different arc than the forward control arm, I have limited travel before the lower arm is forced to move out of plane. I guesstimate that I have 3" - 4" of lower arm travel in the same plane. Do you think my 500# springs will serve to keep travel to a minimum (within my 3"-4") and do you think that travel is sufficient for road racing?

Separately,

Can anyone confirm the diameter of the hub centric center on wheel hubs, the offset of stock aluminum wheels, and the wheel lug spacing. All the questions relate to the '87-'89 years. The info is associated with racing wheel selection.

My original order was for race-valved struts. They sent standard. I also had a difficult time with D2 USA. I contacted the Corporate HQ in Asia. They referred me to the US distributor on the East coast. He evidently ciontacted the West coast distributor. Between them, they decided to honor my original order. The time-frame was "forever" (probably three additional months). I had also ordered a additional set of springs (400#). Those arrived, one being 7", the other longer. The experience has not been pleasant, but I have the hope that the performance will overshadow the difficulties I had getting them.

When I read the statement, " The primary function of the spring is to support the weight of the car", I picture a perfectly restored first generation MR2 cruising on I-80 across the flatlands of Indiana at 70 mph. There are no bumps, no bends, no turns, and no pressures; the perfect world where the weight of the car is nicely "supported".

When I visualize roadracing a nicely prepared first generation MR2, I see it screaming down Mid-Ohio's back straight at 130mph, when before-you-know-it, you are hard-braking for the sharp dropping-off right-hand turn at the end of the straight where now it feels like all the weight in the world has settled on your left front tire and the nicely placed mid-engine of your/my car wants to walk out of the left side of the car. That is a vision that does not lend itself, IMHO, to the reasoning that 250#-275# front springs and 300#-350# rear springs "support the weight of the car".

My intent is to minimize body roll. My observation is that fast road racing production cars appear to run on rails; that is to say there is not much movement from level when they negotiate corners. Examples include Steve Sargis' F Production Spitfire, Jon Brakke's E Prod Miata, and Thomas Thrash's E Prod RX7. Take the opportunity to watch the SCCA National Championship RunOffs when they are shown in late November and/or December on SPEED channel to see if you get the same impression.
I believe a stiff suspension contributes to that stability.

I would like to get as close to the minimum weight limit as possible which is 2060# including driver and fuel. Springs are 500#/in rear and 450#/in front. They are in conjunction with D2 coilovers that were revalved to compliment the stiffer springs. Since I haven't put the car together yet, I have no idea what the weight will be.
Right now I am starting to sand blast wheel hubs and calipers after which I shall try to replace wheel bearings. Any hints regarding wheel bearing replacement?

Thanks for the confirmation. The question I should have asked regarding suspension travel is: What rear spring rate have you used? Also, do you know how much travel you had in your rear suspension?
