It has a thermal valve that should open when cold, and close when the coolant reaches operating temperature. You can test it just by putting it in boiling water. This valve can seize up, and if it is stuck closed, your engine may stall when cold. If it stalls when hot, then this is not the problem. Tell us more about the circumstances.

 

yeah so it stalls a couple seconds after cold starting it doesn’t even make it to operating temp and what part exactly opens and closes ?

 

You get the engine up to operating temp by holding the throttle open until it gets there. It usually pays to do as many diagnostics as you can before you start taking things apart. What is the history? Did this happen overnight, or has it been developing over time?

There is a plunger inside the valve. You can see if you can blow air through it, and if you can, then put it in the boiling water to see if it shuts off.

 

after putting it in boiling water checking it and it cooling off and checking it again. nothing moved or changed so i think it’s safe to assume this might be the culprit

 

I would first try to soaking the ACC in carb clearer for several hours. Then retest. If that does not solve the problem, you will have to disassemble the ACC. Search on line to see how to remove the plug on the end of the ACC, with an Allen wrench, to expose the adjusting hub. You will have to make a tool with short pins to be able to turn the hub. Only adjust the hub about .020" for allowing additional air to enter the TB.

 

I think this sort of failure would indicate that the valve is seized. I doubt that an adjustment would help. If it frees up and works, then all good.
