Umm.... maybe he's german. An aw15 is an aw11. aw15 just means it's not supercharged. aw16 means it is. No mki mr2 imported to the US had an lsd, 86 or otherwise. You can't put power steering on the mki, the steering rack isn't right for that, plus it would ruin the feel of the car. You don't need power steering on a mki anyway, it's not hard to turn.

I'll just post it to make it easier
From the mr2 wiki:

AW11 is the chasis code for any MKI; AW15 (NA) and AW16 (SC) are the start of the VIN. The original 1985 engine (a single carbeurettor 1500cc) is the AW10.

Chasis numbers are read:

A, S = denotes the engine series (4A-GE, 3S-GE, etc)
W = MR2
15, 16, 20, etc = specific model number

It's still an AW15, since it left the factory as a 4AGE. Doing a powerplant swap doesn't change the chassis code.

The AW10's were never imported to the US (nor are they US-legal). They had the 3AC engine, (out of the bottom-line Corollas) not a 4A.

If the dam state wouldn't have made me junk my black 86, I could have proven you wrong on that one

EDIT: I found my old title. It states AW15 but under the hood. It stated that it was a AW10. Should have taken a pic.

there should be a plate under the hood that has AW11 stamped on it. VIN numbers are just VIN numbers.

I had all its original papers and its manufacturing dated was August 1985 If my memory serves me right

I remember being sad the day I wrecked it because my birthday is August 11, 1985
The AW10 was Japanese only vehicle and came with a 1.5L carbed motor. It could never have been imported to the US legally either.

Not just that but cant military people import cars much easier?
Nope,

Just came back from Japan last year (Navy). You have to replace the JDM glass w/USDM, have to add side-impact reinforcement... major upgrade hell. Otherwise every third military person coming back from Japan would be hauling their Skyline with them. (Seriously, I've never seen more R31, 32, 33 Skylines in one place, as on the miltary bases at Misawa and Yokosuka.)

On a side note- I miss my Lite Ace....

hm... I am for sure with out a doubt that it said AW10 under the hood. I could put my left pinky toe on it. But I can't prove it now. So it doesn't matter lol
