Is there any advantage to getting the hex bolts to replace my stock gen3 valve cover bolts?

no. They are fine. The issue with the genII was that they weren't able to be torqued down enough and instead of going with bolts, they went with hex's (I assume for looks). Since our bolts are normal, they are fine and can be torqued down to the proper torque.

Thanks, that's kind of what I suspected...

I find it weird that Toyota engineers actually came to the conclusion that phillips-head valve cover bolts would be a good idea! :rolleyes:

Well, I guess I'll just have to buy the hex bolts for the looks :smile:
