I know I needed axle seals so I got a transmission seal kit as it wasn't very expensive and looked like it included drain plug crush washers. Can anyone please tell me where the rest of them go? I couldn't find anything from searching. It is for an S54. Thank you.

1 is likely the input shaft seal. 2 is for the shift rod. The small aluminum washer is for the reverse shaft bolt. The large nut holds the 5th gear end of the output shaft together. Not sure on the big o-rings, although I suspect they're for the shifter housing. The C50 has a paper gasket there.

Thanks heaps for the replies, much appreciated. Apart from the leaking axle seals the transmission seems fine.

I am guessing that there is not much need for me to be replacing any of these more involved seals proactively?

If the transmission is in the car, no. If it is out, I would say do the input shaft seal since it's easy to get to.

I changed the fifth gear on mine with a taller one - did you know that nut in the kit is a reverse thread?
Good to know!

Everything is currently out, engine being rebuild, almost every gasket was slowly leaking.

I would quite like to do this. I researched it a year ago when I was considering a V6 swap but gave up after finding conflicting and fragmented information. Did you do it for the S54? I would do it in a flash if I could just buy what I need, ideally new. I can imagine spending weeks running around wreckers looking for diesel corolla's.

I found this post from here Longer 5th gear
So, if you have a 1991-1992 S54 tranny the following set should fit :
90-91 5th Gear 33036-32030
90-91 5th Gear (Driven) 33428-32040
It's about $300 but they are both still available. It's just a bit of a gamble as to whether they are definitely going to work.

I found that the replacement fifth gears didn’t work with my 91 S54 which was fubar anyway.
I sourced a 93 transmission and they fit easily.

I linked the wrong thread. Camry 5th gear
The 5th gear you ordered was for a 93. I ordered the other one so hopefully it works. Transmission specialist thought it should be fine.
