my question is why is there any difference of horsepower if both mechanisms produce the same amount of pressure at the same time. i mean i know a buddy with an ae92 with a gze (maf) and on 8lbs. (stock) i/h/e he made around 149whp. but with 8lbs turbo he made in the levels of 189whp on the same boost.

Parasitic losses -- turning the SC pulley takes lots of power, unlike spinning the turbo wheels with exhaust gases.

^^ both of those things + add the volume of air actually under pressure.

+1 on the parasitic more so than thermal. Parasitic losses are in the 30 HP range for SC over 10 lbs and 10,000 rpm. The thermal losses are more like 3 or 4 HP with intercooling.
