There is a 88' MR2 sitting out at a junkyard with a sway bar on the front, would it just bolt onto my 86? or are they different..?

Yes it will work, your 86 should have a front bar anyway.

It sits in the 'frunk'? up over the spare tire..?

That's not the sway bar that's the strut bar and yes it should work if they are both sunroofs or if it's a straight bar. The sway bar is under tha car and it connects to the strut assemblies right under the spring perch with an endlink at each end.
