I have tried the heat gun/hair dryer method. The stripes are too old for that. Peeling them off is not an option as they are brittle, and break in miniscule pieces. I have seen the 3M pinstripe removal tool which you use with a drill. I don't want to drop $30.00 on that though. Any other ideas?

The stripe eraser is your only option when they get this old and brittle. Many detail shops and body shops have them, see if someone will let you use it for about 10mins.

what you asked for tips lol that eraser wheel is awsome. if you use it dont keep it in one place too long or rev it up too high or oyu will burn your paint

eastwood is a great company and has great products. 3M though good is always higher priced. That should work fine.
