Question on Removing T-Bar Roof Moulding

271 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  benckj
I have a 91 MR2 Turbo and the roof moulding is cracking and looks terrible. I found the part number but am not able to find the part for sale anywhere. Looks like it's been discontinued like everything else. Does anyone know of a source for getting one of these?

If not, how do you remove this trim so that it can be painted? I'm thinking about doing a DIY project to sand and paint this so it looks ok again. I couldn't find any posts regarding this but would love to hear from anyone who has restored this part.

I attached a picture of the moulding that I'm referring to.

Thanks,
PB

Remove the headliner. There are studs in the molding and nuts on the underside if I remember right. Or just mask everything off and paint it in place. Probably the easier option.

Oh wow, so it is more involved than I was thinking. Ok, painting on car might be the answer for now then.

Just out of curiosity, what's the part number?

If you going to remove might be best to vinyl wrap it. I’m looking to do mine without removing in black satin.

Great suggestion, especially if that means I don't have to remove the bar!

Thanks,

I believe there is enough room to push the wrap under the edge of strip. I’m not an expert on wrapping but looks to be simple enough to try. Black satin would be best but I just happen to have a stop of carbon to give a try.
