Hi all. I'm new to the forum and I'm glad there is a place to go for answers.
I recently purchased an '88 MkI SC that's been stripped and caged for racing/timetrials/track use only. The other day, I let it idle for roughly 30 minutes to recharge the battery, since the previous owner hadn't tracked it since last August. Suddenly, coolant began to boil over from what appeared to be the overflow tank. A quick scan didn't reveal any apparent damage, and I'm going to have it towed to my mechanic next week for a pre-season check and fluid(s) flushing and replacement. But, I was wondering if I should check anything in particular because of the boilover. Thanks!

I guess that 30 min at idle will do that to a car, specially one that was not a daily dirver and that probably had old rusty coolant in the system. I would drain the whole cooling system and replace the thermostat, also make sure the fans and temp switches work. BTW, welcome to the board!!

Yup, that's your thermostat - when you get it replaced use a genuine Toyota, aftermarket t-stats aren't up to snuf.
