The project kicked off today with the start of the adapter plate making, this is what 25mm thick 400 x 400 alloy looks like....

I marked the centre of where the crank is going to be...

On the V12 there are two raised areas on the back of the engine, one is the crank oil seal housing and the other is a water jacket blanking plate, i have removed the water jacket plate and oil seal housing in this pic...

The plan is to cut a hole where the crank seal housing sits...

Then we will make the adapter plate do the job of the coolant cover plate, so it has dual roles, this will just mean drilling through the cover plate to get the position right...

For now though i'll be sending the plate down to Adam to have the basic holes cut in it.

Check this out, a guy on Imoc is doing his build in tandem with me, based on nothing more than my presumption the V12 will fit he went out, bought a V12 and cut his car up.... i found someone crazier than i am! I'm also making an adapter plate for this guy and helping him through the build, i dunno, you wait all day for one to come along then two come along at once.

Today i got an OB1 starter motor (very hard to find!) and worked out how that is going to fit in around the V12, things are tight! Very tight.... but if i grind away enough of the block castings around the starter it will fit by 3mm without thinning the walls of the block itself. This was a make or break situation for the project, the whole thing would need a major rethink if this starter did not fit on the engine side of the gearbox, but it will.... JUST!

This is a library pic to show you the area that needs removing, this will also allow the OB1 Diff to clear the block too.

No none of that, that's for the brave souls following in our footsteps to do, we just want to prove the concept, build a running V12 and show that it can be done. This build will be running on LPG and not even a road going car, we just want to show it can be done.

Paul....

You should have never shown me that transmission.

I am having evil thoughts about pulling the 2GRFE V6 out of my Spyder and installing a new 5.0L 2011 Ford Mustang engine N/S!! Probably would not even need much cutting (other than the cross member)!

:) it's a nice trans isn't it! The only thing you have to watch out for is getting the starter located on the engine side of the trans. Today i managed to fit this trans onto the Audi V8, first time anyone anywhere has accomplished that, i had to cut away a bit of the block to get the diff clearance and locate the starter but it fits, this has huge implications for anyone going North/South V8 now.... how does 550mm from centre of driveshaft to front pulley face grab you?

To put that into perspective that would mean the V8 going into a Mk2 chassis North/South with no firewall intrusion until the very top of the wall (last 6" i reckon) which will need a small triangle box making, hardly anything.

I'll post some pics of that in a moment, not strictly V12 related but a fantastic milestone for us, definately worth looking at.

Check it out....

550mm from axle centre to crank pulley face, i mean how short is that?

North/South V8's in a Mk2 with no firewall mods anyone?

I had to cut away bits of the block to achieve this...

Same mods will be needed for the V12, but isn't it a thing of beauty when the trans bolts straight to the block?

V8's for everyone.

Paul.. Now if you made some type of mount kit that included some type of semi-bolt on brackets that also included axles, that would be awesome.. Maybe one for the audi engine and the V12 BMW engine.

oh.. and BTW.. yes im asking for a lot...

Here is the starter...

The wife is no good for starting cars, her chain doesn't reach past the kitchen door.
