It probably didn't end up bumping the curb weight up that much. LSx motors are incredibly light...400-450 lbs vs 250-300 lbs for the 1.8L that was in there, so 150-200lbs for 3.2 times the displacement and probably 3-4x+ the power and torque.

Last post was correct, that is an LS4.

Same engine basically, but on a 5.3L block cast slightly shorter with the GM transverse bellhousing pattern. The crankshaft is also shorter to reduce length. It was used in the V8 2005-09 GM cars.

Lower tech than the Northstars, being pushrod non-OHC design. Probably cheaper and easier to modify though.

It is a lot better than the Northstar. Plus GM builds and sells plug and play ECUs to work with that. Modding is a lot easier too. Probably a lot lighter than the Northstar. The OHV makes for less weight up top, the Northstar is very top heavy.
The best V8 install to date in the Spyder is the Audi V8.

Bill which Audi V8?

I was thinking a 1uz was the best V8 (or one of the smallest and cheapest)

If your thinking of doing a V8 into a small car I would look at this build

What's the point of what? There are about 5 different swap possibilities being discussed here - all of which offer more power/torque, which is the point.
