So this weekend i had my dad help me get my horn working again by wiring up a remote button to activate the horn (since i have a quick release steering wheel) so that i could pass inspection. However, when he put it back together, he said, the head lights stop working! The horn wiring was working and wired correctly and nothing else was messed with, but, when you turn the knob to switch the headlights on, they dont come up. Nor do the lights even come on. The interior lights will come on when you turn the parking lights on but if you even slightly touch the little knob on the end of the turn signal thing, the interior and parking lights flicker rapidly like its got a poor connection. Furthermore, the high beams work, but if you switch the low beams on and flick the high beams, the head lights dont stay up after you release the high beams. The turn signals dont work either, but the hazards do.
I looked everywhere for disconnected wiring and found absolutely nothing, any ideas what could be going on? My dad says he thinks the actually switch connected to the steering column has gone back and isn't making a good ground when switching the light on and off, but it had been working fine ever since then. What could have caused this?

Im only asking because i know literally nothing about wiring and found nothing related to the MKII, only the MKI. Is there any way to simply wire the headlights to one switch and the actual motor that flips them up to another? Maybe even have a switch to turn on all the interior lighting? Im not sure how difficult that would be wiring wise, just trying to think of something simpler than searching for hours trying to figure out what happened. I have always wanted a neat little switch board. Any ideas would be great, I do all the mechanical work on my own but i feel bad because i asked my dad to help me wire in my boost and oil pressure gauge and all hell broke loose, now i am in need of heading home (3 hour drive) in the next day to start work and Im just trying to look for a simple solution.

It sounds like your switch has failed. Mine has an issue with the high beams not working unless I use flash to pass, and I know it's the switch on mine. Check all of your fuses in the front 2 fuse boxes before you do anything else though.
