So, I am restoring my 87 MK1 this summer. The seals around the pillars don't leak, it is the seal that attaches to the glass itself. The door window doesn't seal properly (from what i can see on the diagram, part numbers 63627-17010 and 28). The ONLY place i have been able to find them is amayama.com and at 180$ a pop shipped, that is kind of making me choke. I dont mind spending money on my car, but that's a lot to swallow for a couple of rubber strips.

I saw the article about the MK2 t tops. There, someone suggested using silicone to seal it, but i couldnt see the photos and without them the method used was unclear.

Any help with this would be appreciated. If I absolutely HAVE to i will bite the bullet and spend the $$ for the seals, but if i can come up with a less expensive solution that is both more simple and still looks good, i will DEFINITELY take it.

A quick easy temporary fix I used was vaseline. It repels the water and seals it up. Works great when it's cold out, when it gets hot tho the vaseline with run a bit. But worked great for me in the winter until I replaced my seals. Apply it thick so it squishes into any spots that may leak. Mine was at the corners by the doors, worked great.

Check the strip in the middle of the car too where the ttops slide under. This part had a few spot welds rusted out on mine. You have to take the headliner out and it unbolts from the bottom. But you can check it by wiggling to see if it moves, mine did, it shouldn’t. It’s an easy spot weld fix.

So i tried the eccentric t top cam inserts. They helped but didnt fix it. The ONLY way i could get new seals for the was to just order brand new glass. It was expensive, but it (mostly) fixed the issue. I'm pretty sure once the door seals are replaced, that will permanently fix everything. thank you for all the advice. you guys are awesome. I'll be having the suspension upgraded soon. I'll be sure and upload pics when I do.
