Hi

I am thinking of buying an mr2. The thing is the one I am looking at has a miss fire on idle (only idle aparently) This miss fire then goes when you drive and does not effect performance. Any ideas? head gasket? dirty pistons? or something else?

It has full service history + every receipt from new + has been to a garage over this prob!

Spark plugs and oxy sensor have been changed apparently.

Advice?

Thanks

So you dont recon head gasket or anything serious?

I will compression test it to find out but just wanted to know in advance what to check.

def not head gasket... misfires are fairly easy to diagnose and dont usually mean something really serious. Definitely do what bill said...

a compression test is always wise before buying a car.

I would check for a burnt valve or a tight valve. it will miss at ilde becuase its a internal vaccuum leak when you get off idle it will go away. if you have a way of checking the map sensor----more then 1v you will have a valve promble or you can go old school and hook up a vacuum gauge and if i remember correctly more the 20psi or the needle bouncing around a valve is done or to tight
