I installed a custom electronic dash on my 89 MR2 S/C,
so I am need to replace the mechanical speedometer cable, with an adapter that makes an electronic pulse.

What I've done in the past on different projects, is buy an adapter which threads directly onto the transmission mechanical speedometer output (where the mechanical cable would normally attach) and replaces it by producing an electronic pulse which can be read by the electric speedometer.

See pic for example:

I read on this forum that the E153 has an electronic output off the transmission, and it may fit on the E51? Has anyone done this on an E51?

Here is pic of the E153 and E51 parts
