More than you'll ever want to know about AW11 LSD's:
I have no idea - nor do I purport to - as to how any of the LSD's other than the clutch pack act when you rotate a wheel. If you put the trans in neutral and rotate one wheel, the other one will follow it, and you will not be able to stop it easily. If it is an open differential, you may get reverse, forward, or no rotation from the other wheel; but you will be able to hold it stationary easily.
If you put it in gear, with a LSD, and are able to physically overcome the clutch packs, the other wheel can (but won't necesarily) rotate in reverse. If it is an open diff, the other wheel will rotate backward easily.
That said - AFAIK, all the LSD's that were ever put in AW11's from the factory (and there were VERY few) were clutch types. They were never even an option in US cars, and only a handful made it to Canada in the SE's. Only the clutch types were avaliable from TRD in the late '80's, and lots of them (more than ever appeared from the factory) were sold. (Part #'s N/A 41301-AW001; S/C 41301-AW002. The 41301-AW001 was superceded by the 41301-AW004, and the 41301-AE000 helical was added in the early '90's. The S/C part was superceded by the 41301-SW202 from the SW20. they are currently available from TRD Japan for 90,000 (N/A) to 96,000 (S/C) yen.)
This one lives on my parts shelf, as a possible emergency replacement for the one in the race car.
