I just realised that when I swapped the GenII into my 91n/a and used my old n/a ignitor (pn 89279-17020) instead of the genIII one (PN 89621-16020). Which means I probably got rid of the correct one. So what's different about them? The car seems to run fine.

What do you mean it runs fine? Does it rev to redline fully, no hesitation or any issues? If it does, you have the correct igniter. If you have the wrong igniter in, you wont rev past a certain amount (5-6k iirc)

It definitely goes to redline. The p/n is just screwing me up. it seems to drive normal, but I figured there may be something off that I just haven't noticed.

I believe the 93+ NA igniter is the same as the Gen3. But I thought the 91-92 was different. If you run the rev 2 turbo it won't rev past 5k ish. I'm on my phone but a search should have the info you need. I tested my gen 3 with the correct NA version a few years back.

89279-17020 Is not the igniter... Its the plastic cover that goes ON the igniter.

EDIT: For future reference, there are only 2 igniter part numbers that will work on the Gen 3 and are also used on 5sfe cars from 01/92 and up (along with a few other engines / cars). They are the 89621-16020 and the 89621-26010. If you were to go to Toyota and order the -26010 unit, you would end up getting the -16020 unit as cause the -26010 supersedes to the -16020.
