Turning on the blower results in sweet coolant smell in cabin. I assume rotted heater core.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to source a new heater core Toyota part no. 87107-17080? NLA by Toyota. None available that I can find. Rockauto and Napa doesn’t offer one. Is my only option to to rebuild the one I have?

Repair, find a used one, or go without heat.

Thing about repairing yours is there is another spot that's soon to blow out just after you get the original spot fixed. Change your coolant periodically in the future to help prevent failure.

Thanks for the verification. I’d also add use Toyota red instead of green and for the love of god don’t mix them.

Local radiator shop said if it is made of cooper and brass (which it probably is due to era of vehicle) they can remove the tanks and replace the core for no more than $400.

It's nice to have that option, but that sounds expensive for a heater core repair/replacment.

Thats exactly what I did for my radiator. Perfect OEM fitment and performance.

Good to know that option exists, and that sounds quite reasonable compared to some heater core replacement horror storis I've heard (not MR2 specific).
