It was a very rainy day today in NJ. I had the heat on and there was a musty smell coming from the interior, I could not say if it was coming from the vents. It also seemed like the windows would not defog. I had to switch to AC to clear the windshield. Driving home later, it did not seems to smell as bad and the windshield cleared pretty fast. (It was cold but no longer raining) I know on other cars, normally if the defroster seems like it is foggiing the windows on its own it can be a bad heater core. Are there any telltale signs on the MR2 without pulling it apart?? Thanks

I've never experienced a bad heater core on an MR2, but usual telltale signs are...

1. A sweet smell coming from the vents when you run the heat.

2. Windows getting fogged/moist when you run the heater

3. A loss of coolant.

if you have leaky t-tops, water will get in the carpet and stink.. the heater blows the stink around.. doesnt necessarily mean you have a bad core.

They leak a little during heavy rain. Seems to be ok now, it was a vey rainy cold getting warm very fast kind of day.
