And also whats wrong with Drift? Nothing. Its a form of racing, it takes skill.

Dont be hateful, let them be, at the end of the day its what we do to our cars that matter.

Maybe Toyota wants it to be badged Scion because they want it to be for the younger crowd, i mean geez thats what its geared for, I for one want to see Toyota back on top, and it takes sales, so if this is the way then let 'em do it.

Well said and to back it up, just look at the economy today. The younger scene got handed the 10 year old sports cars when the rich men in their late 30's or 40's got bored of them.

So they invent a new supra or mr2....do you think those potentially $40,000+ sports cars will be decimated by glowing neon and fiberglass wings?

The sports compact market on the whole has been decimated. People who want sporty cars, want them efficient now. (not me personally but thats what people are buying) The real muscle is back but seemingly only in the US models.

I am more interested in seeing the car and then deciding if it is worth it. Maybe Toyota is staying away from the sports car market because the buyers are so fickle and unreliable.
I don't care how they badge it, if it is a good car, I am interested. I would drive a Kia or Hyundai if they sold what I wanted. Since those companies are both shedding the reputation for building substandard cars, and both of them are marketing increasingly attractive and sporty offerings, it may be more likely that I would buy my next new car from them and not Toyota/Lexus/Scion.
I guess I would consider buying a Lexus, if they marketed the new MR2 as such, or a Scion. I am not driven by labels, but by driving dynamics, horsepower and reliability and price. If the Scion or the Lexus label make it more expensive, then I would complain.

a Scion? ugh! i want a fun Toyota. move the Yaris to Scion and bring the Trueno/FT-86 to Toyota.

man.... i just have no love for the best japanese car company anymore. all these boring economy cars that look bland as hell are killing me. and i sure as heck dont have lexus money,

I was kinda heart broken when they said it was Scion bound, but then again, its their first actual CAR FR layout since the Supra, so it's probably a test bed to see if it works... Labels can be removed like a few crowds have done with the Lexus IS, and SC for example, I've seen them rebadged Toyota Altezza, and Soarer....

I've read that the Supra is in the making kinda, but first the economy needs to get back to where it kinda was before, since Toyota CEO wants to see it again but the board doesn't, and they want to focus on more grocery getter/ fuel efficient family cars, so for now sports cars, and even the Full Size trucks and SUV's maybe axed in the near future.. just FYI

My apologies. The info was from a 2007 posting. I'll take time to look at post dates more closely.

However, according to Automotive News this week, Akio Toyoda is a huge sports car fan. He took over the company last year and is the one pushing performance at Toyota, including their in-house tuning arm producing the
G-cars and the FT-86G is the first of these. With the mid-engine Supra mules and reports of the new MR2 hybrid running around, it is my prediction that a new MR2 and Supra are in the works and we should see one or the other by late 2012 or early 2013.

Have you been in a new Toyota lately? Build quality ain't exactly what it used to be.

I agree if you are referring to domestic made Toyotas. But the Japanese made cars are still some of the best anywhere.

Damn Straight! Toyota puts more effort into the Lexus brand than the main brand that got them where they are today.

Example. The plastic door handles on camry's from 92 to 01 and corolla's 93 to 02. They are just low quality parts.

I owned an 07 Scion TC and some stuff was less than spectacular on it.

Yes and no... Lexus products are very nice, but Toyota products tend to suffer from cost-cutting and engineering cheapness. Scion is even worse.. the tC is of lower quality than the Yaris.. It just has a huge layer of makeup on its face ;)

The cost-cutting stuff you don't see is under the hood and in the suspension..

There's a lot of "Whoa, this is just like Ford/Chevy!" going on in the Toyota repair shop these days.

My '92 Camry is built like an indestructible tank.. especially compared to a 2011 Camry! The '07+ Camry is thankfully better mechanically than the '02-'06 Camry was.. I do not care for the 2.4L 2AZFE at ALL insofar as reliability is concerned. The only engine R&Rs I've seen in the shop have been 2AZs.. Camry and tC..

Thankfully they've ditched the 2AZ in the '11 Camry (new 2.5L instead).. but it's still alive and well in other models..

Stuff like that, plus PLASTIC gears on the balance shafts... Which come apart from time to time, destroying the entire engine.

Um, the last time I checked, MK1s have cast iron control arms. Not cast aluminum.

No doubt, they have slipped but my 2010 Ltd Highlander is great. Nothing cheap about it, so far.
