I pulled the head off of my 86 the other day and saw that the exhaust manifold was cracked. I knew I had an exhaust leak but hoped that it was the gasket. I go over to my 85 that i'm stripping to cut up and went to inspect that manifold. It is cracked in the same place. I have heard that these cars are bad about manifolds cracking. Is there any way to fix it or are they trashed? I don't think the one on my 87 is cracked. At least it doesn't sound like it is. I don't really want to go with a header because my cars are basic drivers. I've pretty much kept everything in the engine bay stock.

i got the crack brazed on my old 4age manifold before i used it to make a turbo manifold. i did plenty of net searching to find out that brazing cast with a bronze stick (by memory) was the best way to do it for strength and longivity.

I repaired my cracked manifold with POR-15 FireSeal 2000:

I don't know the long term effectiveness because my car was totaled two months after the repair.
