For the ECUMaster EMU PnP adapters, such as those listed here: https://www.ksr.as/en/products/ecumaster-toyota-3sgte-pnp-adapter

Why are there different types?

Consider the plugs that exist for the 3S-GTE:



They all have the same form factor, don't they?

Different pins, yes, but so what? Wouldn't you need to manually populate the ECUMaster EMU pins on the ECUMaster end of the adapter anyway? Then you'd just pick whatever pins you actually need, and you wouldn't care what generation wire harness you actually have?

Or am I missing something?

There are limits to what you can do with reassigning pins on an ECU. I don't know about ECU Master, but on the ECUs I'm familiar with, you can't make one pin be either a crank sensor input (NE) or an on/off output (TVIS) on the same pin assignment.
