why not just get and AEM UEGO unit off ebay? they're under $300 shipped.
Cause this is the DIY corner, man. It's main reason for being is for people with a penchant for figuring stuff out on their own. I wonder if Bill will sticky my DIY engine-bay beer holder again?

AEM uego uses bosch sensors which are a lot cheaper and cannot take the abuse NTK sensors can.

This DIY-WB does not have datalogging? It's only good for monitoring...

personally having built the OZ DIY wideband kit, i think that kit is more beneficial than the one in the link above. Its roughly the same price (maybe a bit more expensive) but you get a much better board that has capabilities of switching between NTK and Bosch sensors with the addition or removal of one resistor and a jumper. The newer kits have a 1MB onboard mem module for datalogging and have 6 user inputs (3 thermocouples and 3 analog + 1 RPM input) plus all your parts and hardware are in a nice neat package, and you dont have to run around for them.
The construction for both units is the same...long and tedious :p

Another DIY-WB Option

I just stumbled accross this thread and wanted to give you guys a heads up on a DIY-WB that I put together... you can find it at www.14point7.com The unit is called JAW (just another wideband) and the owners name is Alan I believe... Great guy and Great Customer Service... Has a few other projects that might be of interest to some.. Check it out and let me know what you think... Ill post my build when i find the photos...

Hope it helps some...

The sensor was around 50 bux at a local autozone when I bought it... I think the price has went up since the demand has went up for these sensors... I dont know the price now... Look up a sensor for the 2000+ VW golf 1.8T... i think the part number is 17014 at autozone... The only thing is this unit dosnt come with a case so you would have to build ur own case... Ive put together a case for my unit kinda cheaply...

Most of the parts are from Radio Shack, the case I got from a website called Circuit Specialists ( www.cir.com or www.web-tronics.com ) The LM317 is isolated from the housing using a "mica" pad with a lil heat sink compound on both sides, (be careful not to use a metal mounting screw to the case, and if u do, make sure its isolated.) I got the mica pad from a kit for my DIY ECU (Megasquirt) You might be able to send the guys at www.DIYAutotune.com an email to see how much it would cost for some pads or where to source them. Everything else is pretty simple, especially if you have a dremel and time. This took me a few hours to put together.

I saw you post those pics on the forum at 14point7.com. I myself are looking to procure a few of these and see if I can offer a complete unit to the guys over here for at least US$100 less than the going price for the LM-1 and AEM UEGO.

I will try to get a project enclosure from Radio Shack to fit but can you give some dimensions as to the pcb and display? I'm looking into building both into one unit, sorta like the LM-1.

JAW works very well. i've been using one since HW version 1.02 came out (on 1.03 now- don't need a display as i just read it through freelog).

i actually have a few heatsink enclosures that are really cheap, but slightly too small for the new boards. i had thought of using them and jsut potting the whole thing, with the case as the heatsink. board V1.02 could be made to fit but i haven't taken the time to see what's electricaly different between it and 1.03

i've been very happy with it. if you have even basic solder skills, you can save yoruself a couple hundred bucks over other WBO2s out there.

Got it sorted. Did a two piece like urs but my reader is in a plastic one (like ur display) with a microcooling fan. I'm currently looking into offering a din-sized case that will incorporate both reader and display, for those who want to mount it below their cd players in the extra space.

Sorry about the long delay but I was very busy with work, and trying to put together a 3vz for the 2... If you need anything else or pictures let me know as I am back home and I can snap a few off for you... If you look up my post on the 14point7 forum it lists where I got all my parts from. Do you have a few photos of what you've put together so far? Id love to see what you came up with.
