When the SW20 MR2 is driving, air is going through the radiator but then ends up swirling about in the frunk, right?

So why, instead of buying expensive vented hoods, not make an horizontal incision in the front hood, bent the metal downwards to get the swirling air out and create a more fluent stream of air?

Stock, the air goes out of the radiator and under the car. Never into the frunk.

Sure you can make your own vented hood. What you are describing isn't really any different than the ones you can buy, except that unless you are a far better metal worker than I, it probably won't look very good.

According to Ecomodder.com
The MKII is already extremely aerodynamic, very low CD and with a small frontal area, the MR2 has less drag then a Prius!

If U want to decrease drag more, perhaps a grille block. Of course U will have to monitor the temperature gauge religiously. Perhaps an automated grille block device like in these "Eco" versions of new cars. At low speed, the reduction in drag is minimal. But at higher speed the engine is working harder and might need the additional cooling if outside temperature is high.
