I made a wise ass remark to the guy last year who's axle dropped out when he claimed that he had no warning. Then last week, there was another thread making the same claim. I've been around lots of front drivers and you can always know before the cv joint actually breaks by the racket they make.
Well, I apologize. The warning signs are easy to miss. Mine started to throw grease which I may have missed if I hadn't been under the car checking an oil leak. The leak was the axle seal which may be related to the cv joint going south, both drivers side.
I changed both yesterday, NAPA supplied parts for $68 total, and now there's another plus. The car is lots smoother to drive. The cv joint has been vibrating the whole car so subtly that I never noticed. It feels like a new car. I've got over 500k miles on mine but they probably won't all last that long so, check em.
