I thought i'd document the build process here. And when i say build process, i mean things i'm paying highly skilled people to do. Someday i hope to have the ability to put a project like this together but i don't have the time or ability to do it right now.

The beginning:
1992 MR2 Turbo with ~190k on the clock - owned since ~130k miles and purchased in 2005
black/black

Nothing too special, had a custom precision top mount turbo set up back in the day, then an extremeboost CT26/35R setup for a few minutes until the turbo blew on the dyno. Built Gen2 block (wiseco pistons, pauter rods, arp etc.), build enginelogics head (hks 272/264, 1mm os valves, ti retainers, shimless bucket, ported, etc.) and bolt ons (autolab intercooler, berk dp and exhaust). I think i was originally running 850 side feeds and then went to ID1000s. Also originally running an AEM and upgraded to a haltech PS1000.

I always wanted to do a wide body but never really liked the kits that were out there, save the JGTC, but even the, i wanted M3/RS4 style, not F40 style. i remembered seeing a supra that was being done in sheet metal so i late 2016 i decided to reach out to the shop and see if they were interested in doing something similar to my MR2.

Kyle at Yocum's signature hot rods was quick to respond and seemed to immediately understand what i was going for. He suggested i work with a render artist to solidify what i wanted, i had been making photoshop mocks for years so instead of going the render way, we went off of my mocks.

I mostly used fenders from 911 wide bodies and E46 M3s. The thing i really wanted to do is raise up the rear arch line a bit, always felt like it looked too low for the car.

So early 2017, i shipped the car from Denver to Virginia and the fab work began!

The process for this body work is fascinating to me. He started with foam and shaved it down until we got something that resembled the vision.

Same process for the front of the car. It started to take shape pretty quickly but there was still a ton of work to do.

You can also see the wheels that are going on the car - they are:
BC forged LE51 brushed clear, polished lip 18x10-10 18x11.5-25
275/35ZR-18 toyo proxes R888R
305/35r18 toyo proxes R888

The suspension so far is wilhelm koni coilovers with double adjustable koni sports.

With this work well in progress, it was high time to work on the go fast parts! Nick Bianco at Nixspeed racing is doing the build. Obviously K20s are the cool thing to do these days but one of my main goals for this car is what i would call "stock +" or maybe +++ in some cases :) So we decided to try and build a 3s and see if we could break the four digit mark. Originally i purchased JSNMR2s old setup (built by CRW) and was planning on putting that in the car. The more we talked about it, the more it made sense that we would just build something from scratch. Here's the interesting stuff:

98 block with BC stroker kit, ACL bearings, cryo trated, filled, hux caps and seats, arp studs
TODA cams and camshafts 288deg 10mm
Motec M130
FP super 99 turbo
custom garret A2W ic setup
PPG dogbox with custom servo paddle shift setup
clutchmasters FX725 twin race disc
custom porsche axles (by CVJ here in colorado)
HUX accessories (mounts, brackets, tensioner, scatter shield, control arms, oil pump modification, -10an fuel rail)
L99 LS4 throttle body with drive by wire

and lots more...

In April, the longblock itself was coming together, making way for the manifold mock up and welding. Nick mocked up everything and it started to come together.

Also, more pics of the head work done - drain back, porting, etc. It's a work of art :)

Back to the body work - Kyle started by doing some metal mockups and built the wells out as well. We've been trying to work out the side skirt too, that will be a little tricky, i think.

That front wheel/tire is going to take some work to fit :)

They moved on to the front fender and banged it mostly out. It's definitely starting to come together there!

Astute people might notice the FG MadPSI DTL that will obviously be painted to match :)

that's it for now - we're over 100 hours into the metal work, probably more in manifold welding, porting, polishing, etc.

I have plans for the interior but that work has not yet started other than my steering wheel i had DB8 make

You should transition the rear fender to the duck bill so its not so abrupt. think CSL e46 M3

i love that idea, and the CSL has always been an inspiration for the body lines. My only concern is i actually have a 95 and a 98 wing out there that i was going to get painted just in case i didn't like how the DTL came out. I don't think i could transition the body without making the trunk lid not work with stock spoilers...

you're right. Thats the only reason why I don't like the duck bill for the mr2. and you cant have both sadly. 98 wing with risers :hitit:

only thing that would be close is the toms lower wing that would be to the duck bill but its not as aggressive. Think David Vespremi's deuce pulled it off the best
