Is there a right up somewhere on how to do a compression check without going to a shop and pulling the head? kind of like a homedepot compression check write up floating around online somewhere that I can use? I searched, and couldnt find anything.

you need to buy your own compression testing kit which can be bought at sears for like $40. then you just pull the spark plugs out and follow the instructions in the kit.

Yeah, it's pretty simple, and it wouldn't require removing the head. Here's a slightly more in-depth procedure:

- Remove the EFI fuse (so you don't flood your cylinders with gasoline), intake tube, spark plug wires, and spark plugs.
- Thread the compression tester fitting in.
- Manually open the throttle plate and have a friend crank the engine for a few seconds.
- Record the reading and repeat for the remaining cylinders.
- Reinstall everything.

heres a quick tip i just remembered that will save you a LOT of frustration-

coat the threads of the compression tester fitting (the part that threads into the plug hole) with a little anti-seize compound... they get stuck in the holes sometimes and it really sucks!
