Hi all,

I am planning on getting a 3SGTE and do a complete engine overhaul.. I would like to have an indea on how much for the job (so i can budget myself better). I am planning on rebuilding it to OEM spec.. maybe adding a CT20B or CT27 (or just rebuild stock turbo) with boost 15psi. I will be happy with whatever RWHP 15PSI can produce..

--
Here is my "updated" list (pls let me know if i miss anything)

-=OEM overhaul gasket kit=- Plus whatever is not included in the kit:

Headgasket (Stock or TTE?),

timing belt, fan/altrtnator belts,
water pump, tensioner, thermo stat,
oil pump

cam/crank seals, front/rear main seal, coolant, heater, vaccum hoses (hose from hell)
power steering hoses (does MR2 have one?)

pistons, rings, Block
Connecting Rods Bearings, main bearings.
Crankshaft
thrust washers
Rods

(OEM)
Rod studs
head studs
main studs
valve springs
spring guides (locator)
spring retainers

PCV hose / valve
Valve job (clearance etc)

OEM Sparkplugs, wire, cap & rotor,
the throttle body gaskets (both)

2 copper crush gaskets for the fuel line to the filter.
Fuel filter, fuel, injector & gaskets, seals
Fuel pressure regulator

02 sensor (s)

Turbo seals (new turbo: CT26, CT20B, CT27)
T/VSV (turbo Vaccum Switching Valve)

Clean Throttle body

--

Roughly, how many hours would this job take?
What is the estmated part cost?
What is the estimated labor?

Thank you much in advance.!

Thanks

Just buy an engine gasket kit instead of getting those gaskets/seals individually.
Why are you spending all this money on Ferrea valvetrain components when your going to be running 'OEM specs' and only a ct20 or ct27? just use stock springs or some engle springs. That will save you a few hundred right there!

I hope your going to be using forged pistons if you plan on buying new ones.

Youve listed bearings 4 times. all you will need to do is the conrod bearings and the main bearings.

Your really better off going and speaking to a few local rebuilders to get an idea what you'll be up for. Where do you live?
And if buying conrods, get the eagle forged rods which come with ARP conrod bolts, so then you wont have to go and buy them seperately.

You can buy a brand new, factory built short block, fully assembled for ~ $1400. If your gaoing to stay "OEM spec" its pretty hard to beat that.

CraggieB here on the board ;)

as for the OEM engine rebuild -- we charge $2600.00 for a rebuilt longblock ready to go -- IMO not needed items would be.....
ARP hardware
TTE MHG
Ferrea valve springs/retainers/locaters (only for use in a full race engine IMO)

most of the rest of the gaskets/seals/o-rings/washers you'll need will be in the OEM overhaul gasket kit

Thanks all for replies,

I am a newbie to MR2, i dont know much about 3SGTE.. I greatly appreciate all your help.

Where can i get this OEM brandnew short block for $1400? If i were to get a new shortblock, what else would i need?

Where is VIN number on the engine (not on the short block is it?)?
I live in Nor Cal, so, keeping original engine is almost a must. . in order to avoid having to deal with CA State Ref, which i heard it can be a royal pain in the ass..

Thanks

Chico is about 3.5/4 hrs north of SJ -- have installed MANY TD06 kits -- also have upgraded oil feed and return lines for them + will have upgraded SS downpipes in here soon also ;)

These ss braided line looks so nice. Are they more durable than stock rubber hoses? Say .. do they last longer from heat generated by engine?

If they are a better choice than OEMs, can we do so ss braided lines on CT27, CT20B, or CT26?

as a matter of fact on all the vaccum hoses?
