I am interested in this. I know 10 degrees btdc is where its supposed to be set.

Can I advance the timming a few degrees to gain any horsepower increase? would one or two degrees hurt anything? would I actually see an increase in hp?

Im learning piece by piece about this engine so please dont flame me!

Im about to go buy a timming gun to make sure my timming is even at 10 degrees right now since I've run out of other things to work on in my free time today

You most likely would see a LOSS of performance.
And increase the risk of engine damage.

The 3sgte already runs a very agressive timing curve, and relies on the kncok detector and a knock response loop that retards timing if any knock is heard. Tripping the knock response will actually lower perfromance.
