hi, i've got a 1993 gze from a manual levin. I was wondering whether i could use an auto box in my mk1 conversion and would it be more reliable than the n/a 5 speed. The reason i ask is that i don't wanna pull the engine out to replace the gearbox when it gets cooked and i've got a auto mr2 which i'm using for spares
The auto SC was the quickest from 0-30mph. Why would you cook a manual gearbox? You might wear out a clutch but you don't have to pull the motor to remove the trans. I did a clutch on my SC last summer without pulling the motor.
i agree...
ive got a GZE with an auto box.... its a bitch to work on, sure u dont burn out clutches, mainly for the small reason that an auto doesnt have one, but u do burn out torque converters or even the whole box itself... very very very time consuming and annoying to replace it yourself and also very expensive if you dont do it yourself.... dropping the engine and all aint too fun either lol
my advice / opinion? keep the manual... clutches are fun
