Great to see you have far more at your disposal than I ever did.
Shame your not following the porsche parts, as your changing the body, masssive wheels, V8, figured some excellent suspension wouldnt make that much of a difference to whats left on the car. I did look into the Supra suspension at one stage. I will work with some time and effort.

I wished people at my work placed liked working on MR2s. Honda, VW, and Ford enthusiast dominate my work place.

Oh .. that and i have my hubs/brakes/wheels sorted...



Just need to add on the handbrake caliper to the rear now.



I've ordered in the Alloy billets to machine the adapters to fit the Prosche/Brembo 997 calipers to the MR2 Hubs. We have CNC machining in house now - which is great!

Looks like a great way to spend the day.
You could spend a little more time to fit Ginetta uprights to mr2 lower links with supra upper links.
The Porsche calipers may bolt straight on.

That's news to me B24 but ... when you have CNC facilities in-house and to meet with UK regulations I need to use as much of the original suspension as possible it's prudent to do so... Otherwise i could find myself in a position where the car cannot be made road legal...

Well, I'm sure you would have a better chance than we would in Australia!
If you can fit those wheels and the flares required, it could be possible. You can use the Supra hubs which can bolt onto the MR2 lower control arm ball joint. top requires some fabrication to the chassis to mount the upper arm, but the coilover should mount straight into the MR2 strut assembly point, the bottom (of coilover) will mount to the Supra upper arm which has a mounting point for the coilover. This way it is still 'technically' using factory Toyota suspension with the addition of mounting points for the upper arm. Still, just an idea to throw around.

Impressive find i thought!

Started jig building today. Am about 50% done so another after work evening will have them complete.

Jig-work pretty much complete, just need to add some bracing to the front; the rear however is complete (nothing to stop me cutting now ;)

Stiffened the front to prevent movement of the plate.

Nothing in between - just the rear bracing complete..





It's not something that has to be pretty but will need to be rigid and light. It does just that.
The rear picks up on the suspension top plates where the top mounts sit, the (4) subframe bolts and the (2) trailing arm bolts. What this means is, i can cut & extend as necessary and, once the engine & gearbox are mated to the subframe, use the subframe to position the new subframe mounting points ...... BREATHE .... Then, I can make/position all my new suspension points from the jig ... Seeeemples! :D

subscribing to this, just wondering are you gonna use a double A arm suspension setup, maybe something adapted from the sc300 or supra? or are you just gonna use the standard mr2 macpherson?

Suspension... because of British SVA (Single Vehicle Acceptance - or whatever it is called now) testing will remain MR2. I will also have to prove it's MR2 - which is obviously not an issue when you have a few of them! To change would mean a whole different (and more expensive) level of testing.

As it stands, it will be beneficial to me to fit MR2 stock discs and calipers to the car for the test as it scores me more points. It is regardless that the new setup are greatly improved performance in terms of testing.

It seems unusual that you are fitting a V8 into a MR2 but you have to run standard brakes?
I would expect that you would have to upgrade to be able to fit a larger engine in the car. In Australia, if you go with a higher spec engine, you must fit bigger brakes, suspension etc. The work must be certified by and engineer. Bit like building a house or modifying it. You note what you want done, the engineer say 'do this', you do it, he check it, signs off then you are good to go.
Even if you are fitting stock brakes then changing these after you have registered the car, can you still be questioned for modifying a car without engineers certification?

Absolutely B24.

Here's the points score.

Original chassis/shell = 5 points
Suspension = 2 points
Both original axles = 2 points
Transmission = 2 points
Steering assembly = 2 points
Engine = 1 point

Need to score 8 or it goes for a much stiffer test. Now... I am friendly with a tester (who is overseeing what i am doing as he's interested and will make testing easier for him too) He says i have 8pts based on what he believes i am doing and his guidelines. I will score another chassis point if i use the original brakes... Right, wrong or indifferent.!!! So, for the sake of the test the car will probably be kitted out with rev1 discs and calipers!!!

Mental innit! :D

OK, I get it now.
So, where can you buy the front clip from the V8 MR2 in the pictures? Did anyone every build a fibreglass kit?
