Advan Designs (advancarbon.com) lists a vented hood for the MKII which appears to be much different from the Border-style vented hoods.

It is also available at carbonsignature.com and from vividracing.com.

All 3 sites use the same stock photo. Does anyone have additional photos of this hood? Anyone had experience with this hood?

I suspect that cutting a hole in the frunk is necessary to make this vented hood fully functional.

Do I need a vented hood? No. Do I want a functioning vented hood? Absolutely!

Constructive comments welcomed.

vented hood link

mr2 oc won't let me post any links.

I attached a .jpg of the picture, but I can't see it as I type, so I don't know if it worked. This is the only picture of the hood you will find anywhere, and the website labels it "Picture for Style Reference only." Contact with Donnie Kie at AdvanCarbon.com revealed that Vivid is the dealer, but AdvanCarbon has the mold, but, apparently, they do not have the time or the storage space to make a prototype. This all seems to imply that I may or MAY NOT get what's in the picture. It seems awfully risky, considering that it is priced at $999.00 US and they can't even give me dimensions on the size of the vent opening.

Does anyone know if Advancarbon is the same thing as the "ADVAN" that is sponsored all over the SW20 jgtc car? If I knew that Advan Carbon Technologies had a racing pedigree, I might be more inclined to order this hood.

Did you find anything on this. I am on the fence about this hood but really wanted to see how people fit them and how they fabricated the frunk to fit.

I want a vent but I also want it water tight up front.

Here is the same hood posted at 300 dollars less which concerns me, but also intrigues me....

There's a guy named Mike Reed in the V6 MR2 facebook group he recently did his hood using the Campos insert and on his blog he described the fabrication and fitment with ducting, including photos. If you can't find any links, I'll try to dig them up for you. How is your car coming along?

Thanks Frank.

After months of trying to sort out wiring issues I believe it is fully functional. Just this weekend I was able to get the 4th Cam responding correctly. I am looking for the white plastic flapper to put my seat belts back in and finish the interior. I have my instructions ready to splice in my 93+ gauge cluster. Just need to finalize where the last two speedometer wires come from.
Need to install a OBDII port. Wire the water pump for the I/C. Confirm how low I can set the boost, supposedly there is a 10-11 psi spring in the wastegate stock. I might order a 5psi one to start.
I took a few months off working on it so my progress has been even slower than normal. But the car runs good, I put it on the lift next week and put it in gear for the first time with it on to make sure the trans rebuild is good before it's maiden voyage down the street.

Thanks to Russ for the link.

Did you go with Link ECU? In weighing Link vs. Haltech I see that the Haltech Elite 2500 has dedicated trigger inputs that can be used for the four cam sensors, while Link G4 Fury requires customizing unused inputs. In my mind this can create a possible "difficulty" - but I don't know if this is what you are dealing with or not. I'm not sold on one or the other yet, so I'm interested in gathering info on the implementations.

Thanks Frank, I shot you a message to answer that. And thanks for the link to that hood.
There was a youtube video using that as well that was a fairly good writeup that gave props to Frankenstein and Willhelm.

I am not sure I like how far back that vent goes as it basically eliminates the front trunk. I am not set on keeping mine just was trying to keep some space, and I still have 90% of my trunk.
