Because you can make more power with less PSI with 9.0:1!
IMO, 8.5:1 is the lowest I would go and up to 9.5:1 for the highest.
10.5:1 + 5 psi from a TD04 13 or TD05 14b would be nice too!

I am aware of this... but there are not many choices for forged low c/r pistons for the 4ag.
JE - Doesn't make them any more (have to do custom)
Arias- makes an 8.6:1 c/r 82mm (uhh.... Sorry but I wont do a 1mm overbore)
Weisco - Only Hi-comp listed
So... 8.3:1 is not all that bad. I mean it's still better than 8:1 GZE pistons.
Personally... I am using 9.0:1 c/r CUSTOM machined pistons from Hasselgren.. they are 81.5mm (0.5mm O/S)... BTW this piston is also a 19mm wrist pin and can only be used with Carillo Con-rods (which I am using).
So... I agree with you Su.. But 8.3:1 is not bad considering what's out there.
