I recently reinstalled the ac compressor onto the car and did all the things necessary to pack freon into the lines, but I have run into an issue where the rpm drop caused by compressor load stalls the engine when I come to a stop and idle. If the car is already idling when I turn on the ac it drops from 800 rpm(warm) to 500 rpm and doesn't stall the engine because it seems to ease into the load.

Any thoughts? I don't know how the engine controls idle with a/c on so I am stumped.

There is an adjustment for the A/C-on idle speed. It's a thumb screw on the left rear fenderwell area, near the battery. The adjustment works like magic, if everything is in working order. You should try searching these forums. All these questions have been covered many times.

There is also an adjustment on the AC controller that should set the engine speed at which the compressor will disengage. Either of these functions should prevent the engine from stalling.
