5th Annual MR2 Chicken Run - May 19th

OK guys, I'm well on the way with the Chicken Run, the route is finalized, times are set, and we're very close to completed on the clues, so this is the official thread for all things Chicken Run!

For those of you who have never been to the Chicken Run, it's a very unique and fun experience for anyone who is an MR2 enthusiast. You DO NOT need to drive an MR2 to the meet, as long as you're an enthusiast, that's all we care about, however prizes will only be awarded to MR2's. We'll be doing a $50 gift certificate to Twos-R-Us for first place and a $25 gift certificate for second place.

The Chicken Run is a bit different than most MR2 meets, in that we don't do a 'group drive', mainly because they're too dangerous and it's very difficult to keep a large group of cars together. Instead, we do it more like a scavenger hunt in that we give the drivers directions and clues, set the cars off at a predetermined interval, and you have to make it to the finish line within a set time, all along the way collecting clues, answering questions, and competing in challenges. The times are set at the posted speed limit with a +/- 10% error factor. Arriving late will incur a 1 point deductions per minute (rounded up) and each minute you arrive early will incur a 5 point deduction per minute. This is to discourage speeding at any point in the drive and gives you time to enjoy some of the roads we've put together this year. Clues and challenges are all timed, and your total time accuracy along with the additional points from the clues and challenges make up the total points, and the person with the highest total points wins. It's a very good idea to have a driver and a co-driver, but in years past we've had people do it as a driver only with great success.

We'll start out this year at the same place we have for the last few years, The Markets at Shrewsbury, at 8:00am. The Markets open at 8:00am, you can go in and grab some breakfast before you take off for the run. We will have first car out at 8:45am, so be ready to go to the drivers meeting at 8:30am. The address for The Markets is:

12025 Susquehanna Trail
Glen Rock, PA 17327

The reason we're leaving a little earlier this year is because the drive is a bit longer and I want to make sure no one has to go too long before the cookout. The roads that we've picked this year are absolutely beautiful, and the clues and challenges will be awesome.

Also, once again, David Hawkins will be opening his back yard (and grill) up to us at the conclusion of the drive at Twos-R-Us. David will be the grill master, and we'll have burgers, dogs, sausages, and a bunch of sides and drinks, so plan on staying for a little while!

As a side note, we've got some extremely cool clues and challenges this year, and if everything pans out the way I'm hoping, it's going to be hard to beat next year!

This will be the main list for attendees, so please either post in this thread that you're coming and how many you'll be bringing, or you can PM me personally if you don't want to post.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Take me off the list please.

Due to the date I cannot make this event, I will be in Peru.
So reschedule your trip! LOL...

No problem Leo, sorry you can't make it this year, hopefully you and your wife can make it next year!
just thought i'd mention that this is the same weekend as the Carliisle Import Auto Festival. maybe after the Chicken Run on Saturday others may want to check this out.
That's true, or they could stay in a hotel overnight and go to the show on Sunday since traffic on Saturday afternoon would be impossible towards the fairgrounds.
I'll be at the beach in Georgia recovering from a water fight with an entire town that day.
Add +1 for me :)

I hope more people start signing up. Looking at previous pictures it looks like there's a nice turn out
Blahpony - that sucks man, we look forward to seeing you every year! Don't have too much fun down there! Was it you that would post this up on spyderchat every year?

1SLOWpsst - people usually start signing up about 3-4 weeks away from the meet, I expect to see probably 15-20 again this year.
Yes, it was me. I'll copy this over there and on mr2spyder.net.

edit: and posted both places :thumbup
Thanks man!
I will be there and hopefully will not finish like an hour behind everyone else.
You can add Karen and I the list. I just hope I will not have to drop out because of work. Been on the road a lot this year, and I have China, Ohio, and, Brazil in the next two months.
Gonna do my best to be there, trying to get off work.

What do you do? Sounds fun!
I am still undecided whether or not I'm coming out for this event. My navigator has other plans for the day and I don't think I'll enjoy completing the course on my own.

Is there anyone else from Northern New Jersey heading out for this?

You don't have to do the run if you don't want to, you could just meet us at the Markets and follow me up after everyone takes off. Completely up to you man, we're going to try to make it easier for one person cars, so it may be worth giving it a shot!

Not as fun as you would think. Long hours at the plants and very little time to sight see. I have been in Califorina the last 9 weeks, then I am told Florida for two weeks, then Ohio for 6 weeks, then either China are Braizl (those are still up in the air as to when). Has for work, I am a electrical engineer for a company that makes plastic bottles.
Sorry guys but I have to drop out. Something came up that wknd.
