I recently got my head back from the machine shop. They installed over sized valves port and polish the head and everything else you can dream about. Yesterday I was measuring my buckets buckets shims and cam clearance when I noticed this. It look like a whole in the exhaust port of what I believe is #1 cylinder. Can anyone give me some insight on this.

I don’t recall noticing a hole on any of my cylinder heads before. I cannot image a good reason for a hole being here. What is on the back side of that hole?

I spoke to a couple of friends and was told it is egr port . Anymore feed back would be cool from people.

Its next to what looks like a casting mark where an EGR valve would go, so this tracks.

EGR! Of course. I checked my 1991 US cylinder head and it has the same hole as yours.
