1991 Build Thread

Sup guys, I recently picked up this 1991 SW20. I have pretty big plans for it to which I'd like to document somewhere. I've already started working on it at the time of posting this so this thread will begin during my engine bay work. The plans for this car: 2GR swap with an engine bay shave (hah), wire tuck, and then eventually repaint, wheels, that easy stuff.

The goal for this car is to be a "GT" sort of car that I can pretty much do whatever with while being comfortable. For example one day I can hit up the track for some fun, visit a car show, win a trophy, and head home with a long drive. All while being comfy and retaining my sense of hearing, should be easy to do right? :p

Here's what the car looked like at the time of purchase. Good ol matte red.

First drive today! I think I put about 15 miles on it already or something. Man.. THIS THING IS SLOW. I will definitely miss the 2GR. So far I have an EVAP code I need to sort out, all monitors have passed except EVAP, it needs to run the self test over night. We'l see how it all goes down soon.

Slow car fast can be fun too if you have some twisty roads. Those mountains in the background there perhaps? Mini vans leave my miata for dead in traffic but I'm all smiles once I get down a side road.

Oh yes this is definitely going to be a slow-car-fast thing. It's not too slow, definitely quicker than a 5S. I believe stock 2AR's dyno around the 150-160whp so its not terrible.

Just a quick update.

All monitors are passing. I unfortunately have been dealing with an O2 sensor code. It seems you can't use the same AFR sensors as you would on the 2GR with the 2AR. Still waiting on a new sensor to come in but other than that there has been no issues. I'm very glad I'm not dealing with EVAP codes, I'm pretty surprised that worked first try ngl. About 300 miles has been put on the swap now. The thing has basically been my daily for the past week and a half.

Currently just compiling all my proof/evidence for the BAR appointment. More to come.
