Just bought a 1988 MR2 and all is well except for the car when either under load or mashing the pedal the car comes close to stalling. A number of things have been tried,
Fuel pressure is fine,
Compression is fine,
Ignition coil has been replaced,
Throttle position sensor has been replaced,
Injectors have been cleaned.
I'm a little stumped on this one and would like to hear any suggestions on what this could be.

Check the ignition timing. That is a basic. You can also replace all of the high voltage ignition components: Cap, rotor, wires, and plugs. Microscopic cracks can allow them to flash over, and that is most likely to show at high load because spark voltage increases with cylinder filling. Does this get worse in wet weather? That would also be a sign of flashover.

I'll have to check, the owner before me claims he checked the timing but no garuntees that he did, the car does idle perfectly fine, haven't had the chance to run it in wet weather.
